Release date for Embracing the Dragon - April 13, 2011
I just got an email from my editor at Torquere telling me the release date for Embracing the Dragon has been moved up from April 27 to April 13. Ack!
I love the internet, and its various writing communities in particular - I posted to a couple of lists about how my promo dates were all now at least 2 weeks after the book releases, and now I have four more promo dates scheduled. I'll have a full list in another post later this week.
I'm also planning to have a short story, previously published by Torquere, as a promotional item when I'm out and about talking to people about Embracing the Dragon. Leap of Faith, which is set in the same world as Embracing the Dragon, and shares some characters with it, was originally issued by Torquere as part of the 2009 Charity Sip blitz. The rights came back to me in September of last year, and I've been debating what to do next with it. Then I started thinking about promotional give-aways and it was clearly a match made in heaven.
I've hooked up with a cover artist, Sheri McGathy (http://www.sherilmcgathy.com) who is hard at work on a wonderful cover for it, and am now working on figuring out how to get the text into various e-book formats.

I would've probably still bought the book if I had known but my first reaction when I read the intro was to be annoyed, kind of like being missinformed, if you know what I mean.
I will continue reading because so far I am enjoying it but it is far from an easy read due to the different world and the knowledge the reader is supposed to have. :)

First, it sounds like my introduction was badly worded. It was meant to give credit to my co-creator for a great deal of world building, not to suggest that there are other books you needed to have read previously. This is the first novel in this world that is published. There's a lot of world building, and at least half a dozen projects on the drawing board between BA and myself, but you are getting in at the beginning.
There are 3 previously published short stories, two of which feature Danny as a main character. Those two are still available in anthologies from Torquere (Cherry and I Put a Spell on You), but both fall later than the novel, chronologically. The other is a short featuring Greg, Danny's attorney as the main character, and is about a year prior to the events in Embracing the Dragon. It was originally published by Torquere, but has finished it's licensed run, so it's currently not available. I'm in the process of reformatting it to give out as a marketing freebie. If you'd like a copy, I'd be happy to send you one. Just drop me an email at kathryn.scannell gmail.com.
If there are still points about the setting which are confusing you, feel free to write me and I'll try to clarify. There's a fine line between dumping too much information about the world on the reader, and not telling them enough. It sounds as if perhaps I erred a bit on the side of avoiding the dreaded infodump.
This is the first of a two book set. I'd hoped that putting Book 1 on the cover would make that clear, but perhaps there should have been something on the title page too. You're very right that the story isn't over. I'm currently at work on the second half, in which Danny gets to go home and deal with the repercussions of his choices concerning Mordellir (trying not to put spoilers out, in case others are reading this who haven't finished the book).
I'm still writing the first draft, so I don't have a solid date for it yet. My editor was making hopeful suggestions about this fall, and I'm aiming for that, but if the day job demands a lot of overtime this summer that will probably slide into next year.

And it might be just me but for me when I read Book 1 on the cover (which I did) I knew that the over all story line wasn't going to be done but I still expected the book itself to have an ending. I guess that's just how I am used to things from reading other books.
I didn't expect the book to stop right mid plot.
I am very much looking forward to the second book then.
